ardening, fly-fishing, marathon running, whitewater paddling, rollerblading, Central Oregon’s Pole Peddle Paddle, you just never know how your mother came by her aches and pains. To soothe her sore muscles and pamper her soul, kids can make a set of spa supplies as a gift for Mother’s or Father’s day. Bath Salts Salt in the bath helps relax tired muscles, lavender provides an aroma known for its relaxing properties, and the baking soda softens the water.
Supplies: pharmacies, natural food and grocery stores Pour Epsom and sea salts and baking soda into a large zip-style plastic bag or bowl with a tight-fitting lid. Put in a drop of food coloring and a drop of essence. Seal and shake to mix. If you are using paste or gel food coloring you may have to rub the coloring into the salts. Carefully add more coloring and essence as needed. When mixed, pour into container. One batch will fill a twelve-ounce jar. Make salts in different colors and layer them or just make them all in one color with a corresponding fragrance such as purple salts with a lavender essence. To use, pour one-quarter cup salts under running bath water when filling the tub. |
